The Work Life Balance Benefits of Remote Work

The Covid-19 pandemic catapulted the start of the “work from home” era that we currently live in today. Technology has advanced so far and fast that companies began asking: do we really need to be together, in an office, to do our work? During the pandemic, we got our answer, learning that in fact many of us don’t need an office to be successful and productive in our work.

In this newfound working environment, companies that prioritize or give the option for remote work will have a higher chance of bringing in new talent and retaining the current talent that they have. Companies that don’t have a “work from home” policy should take time to realize the importance and the benefits of remote work and how it positively affects team members.

The Benefits of Remote Work

Without question, working from home offers many benefits to both companies and their employees. Companies can reduce or eliminate costs, allow for geographic and work schedule flexibility, put a stop to commutes, and for many, provide a better work-life balance.

Company and Employee Cost Savings

An employee’s finances can add up when commute related expenses are accounted for, such as gas, transportation, parking, vehicle maintenance, etc. – all of which are eliminated or greatly reduced when working from home. By allowing employees to work from home, these cost savings put more money back in to the employee’s pocket. And the benefit of saving money isn’t just for the employees; many companies who allow employees to work remotely will also see significant overhead cost savings in areas like rent, utilities, and on-site technology.

Flexible Work Schedule

Many remote jobs can create a more flexible work schedule. This means companies are allowing their employees to start and end their day when and as they choose – the caveat being as long as their work is complete and continues to produce strong outcomes. This level of control over employee work schedules can be invaluable when it comes to employees balancing their personal life with their work life.

More Time for Other Priorities

On average, it takes workers around 1 hour each day to commute to and from their place of work. By eliminating the need to drive to and from the office, companies are increasing the time available to employees to focus more on priorities outside of work. This in turn adds more opportunity for a better work-life balance for employees.
