Project Summary

Following an acquisition, our client sought to integrate their health systems by consolidating all Electronic Health Record (EHR) and Information System (IS) support applications. Recognizing the significance of a smooth transition, they strategically chose to partner with Divurgent, confident that together, they would achieve successful application consolidation, leading to increased revenue and reduced payment time. Every project milestone was completed on time and within budget, culminating in a flawless post go-live period without incidents.

Our Partner

Our client, with four hospitals and behavioral health services, is the largest healthcare system in their region and are clinical partners with a prestigious medical school. With cutting-edge ICU facilities and eICU monitoring systems, they continuously raise the bar for patient care. Their recent acquisition of a health system expanded their impact across 2 hospital locations, 20 ambulatory locations, and over 1,600 employees and 150 licensed beds. With a vision for growth and a steadfast dedication to superior care, our client stands as a beacon of healthcare leadership in their community.

The Challenge

Their acquisition of the health system presented a multifaceted challenge, requiring the integration of disparate EHR systems, fortification of network and cybersecurity infrastructure, and transitioning to a unified help desk. Compounded by the pandemic’s disruptions to the supply chain and staffing, the project demanded resilience and agility. Recognizing the need for a partner with demonstrated expertise in managing large-scale EHR system integrations, our client sought a trusted collaborator capable of offering flexibility and adaptability throughout the project.

Our Solution

Striving for a “one patient, one record” outcome, our client set out to integrate acquired Meditech and All Scripts data into their existing Epic system, while also incorporating essential applications like Blood Bank, PACs, and Pyxis. Assuming a decisive leadership role, Divurgent assembled a dedicated team of over 120 experts for comprehensive go-live support and seamlessly collaborated with client-appointed vendors. Mindful of health risks associated with large gatherings during the pandemic, Divurgent applied a virtual staffing strategy, deploying on-site support only when absolutely necessary.

Prioritizing the security of sensitive patient and clinical data, Divurgent meticulously executed network remediation efforts, which included relocating and setting up new network closets, installing firewalls, and deploying 1,500 new PC workstations – all while accommodating legacy applications across diverse data centers. Faced with pandemic-induced supply chain challenges and equipment shortages, adaptability and resourcefulness were skillfully demonstrated to ensure uninterrupted progress.

Leveraging the client’s original Epic documentation, Divurgent crafted a forward-thinking playbook that not only guided the integration process but also laid the foundation for future acquisitions. To guarantee a seamless transition overall, Divurgent executed email and help desk conversions, and implemented an application for medication reconciliation and abstraction.

The Result

After ample go-live training, our client achieved a successful launch in October of 2023, surpassing all expectations. Consolidating over 120 applications, they not only met but exceeded their objectives, realizing a remarkable 110% increase in revenue and significantly reducing payment time. In just 21 months, Divurgent’s adept project management kept the project on schedule and under budget. Post go-live, the absence of significant incidents underscored the resilience and effectiveness of the implemented changes, affirming the client’s confidence in their newfound operational capabilities.
